Role overview

As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the delivery of cost management and commercial services across a range of projects.

This role will work closely with senior surveyors, clients, contractors, and internal teams, contributing to the successful commercial management of projects from inception through to final account.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of cost plans, estimates, and budgets for building and refurbishment projects.
  • Support the administration of contracts, including valuations, variations, and final accounts.
  • Assist with procurement processes, including tender preparation, analysis, and reporting.
  • Prepare and review interim valuations and cost reports.
  • Monitor project costs and cash flow, identifying risks and value opportunities.
  • Support clients with commercial and contractual advice.
  • Work collaboratively with building surveyors, project managers, and other consultants.
  • Assist in managing projects within the social housing sector, including planned maintenance, refurbishment, and compliance works.
  • Ensure work is delivered in line with professional standards, best practice, and client requirements.

Skills and experience required

Essential

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
  • 2–3 years’ post-degree experience in a quantity surveying role
  • Experience working within a consultancy or private practice environment
  • Good understanding of construction costs, contracts, and procurement routes
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and reporting skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and manage multiple tasks
  • Good written and verbal communication skills

Desirable

  • Experience within the social housing / residential sector
  • Exposure to refurbishment, maintenance, or planned works projects
  • Working knowledge of JCT contracts
  • Working towards RICS accreditation (not essential)
