What do the best procurements have in common?
Throughout our South East Consortium Procurement AM session, PA23: Is It Working?, one theme surfaced again and again: planning.
The feedback highlighted challenges around procurement timelines, contract readiness, tender information and mobilisation. Yet these issues all point towards the same underlying principle.
The most successful procurements are rarely the most complex or the most innovative. They are the best planned. They tend to feature:
- Early stakeholder engagement
- Realistic timescales
- High-quality documentation
- A focus on mobilisation and delivery from the outset
The Procurement Act has created new opportunities for organisations to think differently about procurement. However, the fundamentals remain unchanged.
Good planning leads to better procurement and better outcomes.
